Voice of the Overcomer Ministries offers many services to inmates and their families on a spiritual, emotional and practical level.
Meeting and counseling with inmates both while they are incarcerated and once thy are released.
Followup discipleship is extremely important in the life of ex-offenders. Getting out of Prison or Jail is one thing, staying out is another. Ex-offenders need ongoing support and training as well as someone who holds them accountable for them to become productive members of society.
Helping families stay together while loved ones are away serving their time.
Holding together a family while a parent or spouse is incarcerated can be difficult, especially if that person was the breadwinner. Sometimes the spouse that is left behind just needs someone to talk with to encourage them. Other times they need resources to be able to feed and house themselves and their children. We interface with different resources within the community and try to steer families to the help they need.
Discipling inmates while they are incarcerated.
Many inmates come face to face with their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for the first time when they are facing jail or prison time. Often it is a time of taking stock of one's life. To insure that these prisoners are not just experiencing "jail house conversions" it is important that they have one on one training in the Word of God. We supply Bibles, solid Christian reading material and other Christian study aids to help inmates begin to read and understand the Word of God. Sometimes we even have to supply such basic things as a pair of reading glasses so they can read their Bibles.
Being an outside link between inmates and their extended families.
By the time many inmates land in jail they have seriously burned their bridges with parents, grandparents and siblings. While we understand the need for family members to "cut the cord" at times, we also believe in restoration and redemption. Many times this means only a call to home to let family know where they are and that they are safe. We realize not all relationships can be restored, but we want to be a bridge home when we can, which sometimes means ministering peace to the left behind and emotionally ravaged family members.
